When opposition arises

“But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite servant and Geshem the Arab heard of it, they jeered at us and despised us…”
— Nehemiah 2:19

Just as the momentum is at its peak, opposition arises. Nehemiah’s critics, Sanballat and Tobiah, jeered at them, despised their efforts, and even make false claims. This is all in effort to keep them from the mission God has for them.

The task ahead for God’s people will require them to develop a thick skin. Right from the start, they is mocked and hated. This is a reality for the people of God in any age—when you dedicate yourself to the Lord’s work, there will be opposition and ridicule.

Prayer

Lord God of heaven, make us prosper as we your servants arise and build. May we continually be reminded that we serve the God of heaven and earth! Grant us comfort and courage as we contend for the future you have for us in this city.
