PRAY FOR GENTLENESS & RESPECT

“But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.” —1 Peter 3:15–16

When we share the good news of Jesus' person and work, we should do so in a way that does not undermine the dignity and value of others as fellow image-bearers of God. We are sharing the hope we have in Christ — the news of a Savior and sin atoner — inviting others to experience true freedom. However, we will face opposition. Some will hate Jesus and resist God’s ways. We may be slandered and mocked for doing the Lord’s will. Their goal is to discourage us from Jesus and His mission.

Don’t take the bait.

Instead, pray for the grace to respond with gentleness and respect toward opponents, remaining steadfast in Jesus’ mission for our city.

Prayer

Lord, empower us for faithful ministry in our city. May we present a strong defense for the hope within us with gentleness and respect, bringing glory to your name. Equip us all as students of your Word, relying on the Holy Spirit to change hearts. Help us respond to opposition with grace, humility, and unwavering trust in Jesus. May our lives reflect Christ’s love, ensuring we never add fuel to slander but point others to the truth of the gospel.
