advent starts today
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah.”— Jeremiah 33:14
Advent is a tradition that has developed over the church’s history as a time of preparation for Christmas Day. It is a season in which we focus on the adoration of Jesus, marked by patient waiting and hopeful expectation. The word Advent literally means “coming.”
Throughout the Old Testament, God prepared His people for the coming of the Messiah. During Advent, we remember the centuries of longing for salvation and celebrate the fulfillment of God’s promises through the birth of His Son, our Savior. This season should bring great joy to God’s people, for the waiting is over.
Prayer
We rejoice in the remembrance of Your first coming, Lord Jesus! Just as a child eagerly waits to open presents on Christmas Day, we eagerly await Your return. On that day, You will make all things perfect and right, and we will live with You forever. Until then, may we labor in faith, seeking first Your kingdom and seeing Your will done on earth as it is in heaven.
Amen.
