PRAYer Journaling

“As soon as I heard these words I sat down and wept and mourned for days, and I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven.” — Nehemiah 1:4

The book of Nehemiah is full of his personal journal entries. Through them we learn about his prayer life and vibrant relationship with God. Journaling can be a great blessing to God’s people, especially when we find ourselves in a season of spiritual drought, going back and reading past journal entries can be really encouraging. It allows us space to recall what God has done, where he has carried us from, and encourages me to press forward.

As you pray today, write out in your journal what you hope God will do in and through you during our Nehemiah: Contending For The Future sermon series. Below are a few questions to help you process as you think, journal, and ask God to bring about specific fruit in your life.

  • What do you want to learn more about?

  • What questions about who God is do you have?

  • What ways do you desire Jesus to speak to you?

  • Are there any areas of your life where you have been resisting the prompting of the Holy Spirit?

  • What fruit do you hope to see God bear in your life or in the lives of others?

Lord Jesus, you are the King of heaven and earth. You are the head of your church! May we labor with the strength you provide, seeing the opportunities you put before us with confidence and zeal. Grant us to bear the fruit of the Spirit in our personal lives, households, and your church. Keep us from sin. Keep our eyes on Christ. Grant us favor and power to stay the course on your mission.

Amen.
