A Note From Pastor Griff

This past Sunday, Pastor Griff officially passed off the Lead Pastor role to Pastor Al and shared with us this word of encouragement:

“If I had never joined a church till I had found one that was perfect, I should never have joined one at all! And the moment I did join it, if I had found one, I should have spoiled it, for it would not have been a perfect church after I had become a member of it. Still, imperfect as it is, it is the dearest place on earth to us.”- CH Spurgeon

These words from Charles Spurgeon ring true in my ears as I consider the past 5 years in San Antonio. Amanda and I moved here with a prayer and a dream to see God plant the Gospel in the hearts of men and women in San Antonio and see a community transformed by Jesus. We slowly became a small group of people united by the desire of seeing city-wide transformation through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We were not perfect and if we were close I definitely spoiled it! Still, The Well imperfect as it is, is the dearest place on earth to our family. I hope you will understand when I say that my joy in knowing you and serving you these years has been an amazing gift to me and I will cherish it for my time here on earth.

As we leave The Well, I have a few parting words:

  • Thank you. You have been family and you have come near to my family and supported us in so many ways. I know I have not said “Thank you” enough, and this is the smallest way I could express my thanks, but thank you.

  • Forgive me. Where I may failed you or your family. I am not aware of any personal grievances or hurts I have caused, but where there may be some, I graciously ask you to forgive.

  • Don’t stop, don’t quit, just keep going. We were not the first to bring the Gospel to San Antonio, we will not be the last. Be encouraged, God is at work at The Well and will continue to work in and through you.

Finally brothers and sisters, we promise to continue to pray for you daily. Our prayer will be, as it has been every year, that you would be a church filled with love for God and others, strong in the strength of God’s might, clothed in His character, and standing firm in Christ alone. We set out with a dream of city-wide transformation, spiritually, socially, and culturally through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I cannot wait to see how God continues to bring that dream to reality using The Well Community Church in San Antonio.

Listening to Jesus alongside you,
